While many begin planning for celebrating the upcoming holidays as if the pandemic were behind us, the numbers would suggest otherwise. With Thursday’s update from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, some of the highest case counts seen so far this year have returned.
Although not as high as during last year’s holidays, the number of active cases has reached the highest levels seen in 10 months. On January 12th, there were 798 active cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County; as of Thursday November 11th, there were 799, exceeding that level for the first time. Hospitalizations remain at the highest level seen so far this year, at 25 current patients.
Thursday’s data showed a total of 17,711 cases so far in Sheboygan County, 78 more than on Wednesday. With 52 recoveries in the same time, the active case count rose by 26. 5 more persons needed hospitalizations, and with 5 discharges, the patient count was stable since Wednesday.
The level of community transmission remains high, with no change in data since Wednesday – 406.62 cases per 100,000 population in the last 7 days, and an 11.92% test positivity rate.
Vaccination numbers in Wisconsin have been frozen since last Friday, when an audit showed discrepancies related to accounting by Walgreen’s affecting several state’s vaccination data. It is hoped that this issue will be resolved soon.
