Zona Gerene Ziegler, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully October
31, with loved ones by her side. Born August 19, 1928, in Tracy Minnesota, Zona
was the youngest of four children and only daughter of Mortimer Cady and Anna
(Lynn) Cady. She met her husband, Frederick “Fred” Ziegler on a blind date, set
up by her future sisters-in-law. They married in 1949, moved to Sheboygan in
1950, and together raised seven daughters. Throughout her 36-year marriage, she
cooked, cleaned, sewed, knitted, took care of children, was involved in PTA,
church activities, Eastern Star, and more, all while helping her husband manage
Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home and Juvenile Furniture store.
Zona is survived by her seven daughters, Gerene (Bruce) Dahmer, Susan Dolgner,
Cheryl (Mike) Fritsch, Lora (Dee) Au, Shelley (Patrick) Hennen, Virgene Mata,
and Gayle (Mark) Schaub, thirteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren,
and brother, Ward Cady, of McKinney, TX. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Frederick Ziegler, brothers Lynn and Dale Cady, sisters-in-law Frances
Cady and Delores Cady, and granddaughter, Sarah Fritsch.
Zona faced heartbreak with strength and grace, losing her husband in 1985 and her
granddaughter in 2006. She acknowledged and accepted life’s ups and downs, and
never turned down an opportunity to enjoy a good time. She loved to travel and
was game for anything. She explored Italy, cruised through the Caribbean, visited
her daughter and son-in-law in Egypt three times, saw Israel and Palestine, and
toured Poland and France with a neighbor. Zona also visited the many states in
which her daughters lived, including Virginia, California, Kansas, Indiana, Illinois,
Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Ontario, and Quebec.
In more recent years, Zona found joy in spending time with family, watching her
grandsons race cars, doing puzzles, playing games, enjoying a good meal, and
sipping a good martini.
