Paul Vernon Nyhof, 96, of Oostburg, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Pine Haven Christian Communities in Oostburg.
Paul was born on May 4, 1925, in Sherman, NY to John and Alice (Duenk) Nyhof. He was a 1943 graduate of Cedar Grove High School and the State of Wisconsin Training facilities in Madison and Fort McCoy.
On June 13, 1947, Paul married Marie Joosse at First Reformed Church of Cedar Grove. Paul and Marie lived on the Duenk homestead farm until 1991, when they moved to Cedar Grove.
Paul worked at the State Foundry and Machine Co. until 1957. In October of 1957, he was hired as a Driver License Examiner by the State of Wisconsin. He served the state in different capacities for 30 years, retiring as Area Supervisor for the Division of Motor Vehicles in 1988.
Paul was a member, Elder and Sunday School Teacher at First Reformed Church of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. He served on the Board of Directors of Holland Mutual Insurance Company for many years and enjoyed doing volunteer work for the Motor Vehicle Department in his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, collecting small gasoline engines, and metal detecting.
Paul is survived by his two daughters, Mary (Darryl) Hansen and Joan Graven; four grandchildren, Todd (Brita) Hansen, Gail Marie (Malia Shimomura), Peter (Laura) Graven and Anne (RJ) Pirlot; six great-grandchildren, Naomi and Arden Hansen, Nolan and Winson Graven, Augustus and Gabriel Pirlot; and sisters-in-law, JoAnn (Joosse) TenPas and husband, Carl TenPas, and Laverne Joosse.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; son-in-law, James Graven; parents, John and Alice; three brothers, Gerald (Edna) Nyhof, Norman (Alma) Nyhof and Fred (Irene) Nyhof; and an infant sister.
A funeral service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 11:00 am with Pastor Bradford officiating. A private family burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at the funeral home on Thursday, from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
