Mary Ann (Block) Verhage died peacefully with family holding her hand on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Shores of Sheboygan Assisted Living Facility where she had resided for almost three years. Mary Ann was born at home in the Town of Wilson on September 3, 1924 to Martin and Katherine (Schmidt) Block. She attended Plymouth schools and was married to Lawrence “Hap” Verhage on October 12, 1946 in Plymouth. They moved to Sheboygan to raise their eight children. Lawrence preceded her in death on July 4, 1981. Mary Ann loved her gardens and flowers, doing crafts and playing cards.
She is survived by four sons: Gary (Carolyn) of Sheboygan, James (Julie) of Sheboygan, Scott (Bev) of Kewaskum, and Paul (Jane) of Hingham. Further survived by her grandchildren: Christine (Kevin) Dahlhauser, Brenda (Joel) Borgman, Pamela (Michael) Brownell, Bethany (Kyle) Kneser, Ryan (Candice) Braun, Carisa (Anthony) Resimius, Vicki Hiller, Jenell Alodia (Arturo) Cruz, Jessica (Pedro) Cardinas, Tina (Damian) Ballentine, Tammy Verhage, Jeffery Verhage, Kristy Verhage, Martha (Timothy) Price, Trista Stroessner, Ashley (Travis) Brown, Nicole Corrigan, Elizabeth (Joseph) Miller, Samantha (Matthew Egerer) Verhage, Benjamin (Nicole) Verhage; 33 great-grandchildren and one on the way and her sister-in-law Shirley Verhage. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Bonnie (James) Braun and Jean (John) Borkenhagen; sons, John Verhage and Mark (Lori) Verhage; grandson, Terry (Karen) Borkenhagen; great-grandson, Connor Corrigan; her parents; siblings and spouses: Leona (Norbert) Gilboy, Leonard (Lorraine) Block, Herbert (Patricia) Block, Jerome (Marilyn) Block, Robert (Sandra) Block, Helen (Willard) Brendel, Raymond (Mary) Block; infant sister, Hildegard; parents-in-law, Jacob (Clara) Verhage, siblings-in-law: Willard (Leora) Verhage, Marian (John) Schirmer, Richard (Dorothy) Verhage, Mildred (Claude) Halbach, and Clarence Verhage.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1305 Humboldt Ave., Sheboygan, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. A memorial will be established in her name.
