Working parents of hundreds of children waiting for qualified care that’s available 24-7 have their hopes pinned on a zoning decision before the Sheboygan Common Council tonight.
An organization called “A Million Dreamz” awaits full council approval of zoning changes that are needed in order to operate a state-licensed child care and educational facility in the former Sheboygan Christian School building at 418 Geele Avenue. The proposed change to MR-8, or Mixed Residential Classification, has already received a recommendation for approval from the City Plan Commission.
Some neighbors have voiced concern about noise from children and the parents dropping off and picking them up at odd hours. A Million Dreamz organizers say that shouldn’t be an issue, but they’ve advised parents to be mindful of the neighbors’ concerns.
According to Family Connections, a child care resource & referral agency serving area counties, some 286 children are on waitlists at childcare centers in Sheboygan County. If approved, A Million Dreamz could serve up to 200 of those at once.
