Only minor changes in the COVID-19 data were shown in Thursday’s semi-weekly update from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health.
39 new confirmed positive tests were outnumbered by 51 recoveries, and the active case count dropped by 12 to 762. 16,299 cases have been found in Sheboygan County so far during the pandemic.
Hospitalizations were needed by six more residents, while five were discharged, leading to a patient population of 16. 832 total hospitalizations for the coronavirus have been recorded here.
The Sheboygan County Transmission Level remains “high”, with a 7-day case average of 267.05 per 100,000 people, and a 10.83% positive return rate on tests. At this level, the County DPH and the CDC both recommend that all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks while indoors or when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
According to data from the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene, the delta variant is nearly monopolizing samples analyzed through genomic sequencing. In the last 30 days, 683 samples tested positive for the Delta variant, while the only other variant reported, the Alpha (original) was present in only 1 sample. The total Delta variants sequenced outnumber the next most numerous (Alpha) 8444-3735. Delta was first detected this past April in Wisconsin and became dominant during August.
As for vaccinations, 55.7% of the county population has received at least one shot of vaccine, totaling 64,266 persons – 79 more than on Wednesday. In the last day 101 more persons have completed their series. That total is now 61,766, or 53.6%.
