The Wisconsin DNR on Tuesday announced the newly released 2021 Wisconsin Air Quality Trends report, and it shows that Sheboygan County continues to improve in concert with State trends.
The report said the most notable improvements from 2018-2020 were seen in the Lake Michigan shoreline counties, an area historically impacted by elevated ozone concentrations.
The DNR monitors ozone in Sheboygan County at one site at Kohler Andrae State Park, and began monitoring at a second site in Haven in 2014. In 2020, the EPA redesignated Sheboygan County to attainment for the 2008 ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard of 75 parts per billion. That standard was lowered in 2015 to 70 ppb, and until the EPA revokes one, both standards remain in effect. The Haven site shows compliance with both standards, while the Kohler Andrae site still has a way to go for compliance with the lower 2015 standard.
