Monday’s semi-weekly coronavirus update from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health indicated something of a tie score between new cases and recoveries. With 67 in each category, there was no net change in active cases, which remained at 605 on Monday, the same as Thursday’s report. However, on a day-by-day reporting basis, active cases declined by 9 from Friday’s 614. And while 4 more persons were admitted for hospitalization since Friday, six were discharged and 8 patients are currently being treated in Sheboygan County.
Monday’s data from the CDC shows a high level of transmission in Sheboygan County, though the case rate declined somewhat from Friday’s 302.58 cases per 100,000 persons to a level of 286.98 on Monday. The 7-day average percent positivity rate of tests received also declined slightly from 10.8% on Friday to 9.54% as of Monday. At that level of transmission, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health and the CDC recommend that all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks while indoors or when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
Vaccinations dropped markedly last week compared with the previous week’s numbers. The week of September 12th saw 1,248 doses administered. Last week the number was 873. 55.0% of the county population has now received at least one dose, amounting to 63,484 persons. 52.5%, or 60,583, are fully vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Those wishing to be vaccinated can take advantage of the free “Walk-In Wednesdays” clinic offered at the Sheboygan County Health and Human Services building at 1011 North 8th Street in Sheboygan.
