
Gladys J. Beringer, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2021, after a brief stay
at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.
Gladys was born April 11, 1932 in Plymouth to the late Cornelius “Casey” and Helen
(Lindow) Schaap. She was confirmed, taught Sunday School, and was married at Zion
Lutheran Church in Glenbeulah.
On October 1, 1966, she married the love of her life, Willard Beringer. They lived in the
Town of Plymouth for 20 years in a home built by Willard and his twin brother, before
moving to the city of Plymouth. Willard preceded her in death on January 3, 2005.
Gladys graduated from Plymouth High School in 1950. After graduating, she worked at
Borden’s Foods in the plant lab for 18 years. She also worked at St. John Lutheran
School for 23 years. In retirement she continued to volunteer at St. John, as well as the
Plymouth Senior Center Meal Site and Rocky Knoll Health Care Center. Gladys was a
member of the Altar Guild and LWML at St. John Lutheran Church, as well as the VFW
Auxiliary Post 5612 and Rocky Knoll Auxiliary.
Gladys enjoyed gardening, golfing, traveling, and spending time with her family and
friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Cristi) Beringer of Newton; Sisters: Louella
Meinnert of Sheboygan Falls and Cleo (Eugene) Leonard of Kiel; as well as many nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; her parents; sisters: Judy Schaap and
Marlene Karsten; brothers-in-law: Warren Beringer, Gordon Karsten and Milton
Meinnert; and sister-in-law: Dorothy Beringer.
Following Gladys’ wishes, cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held
on Friday (October 1, 2021) at 2:00 PM at the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev.
John Schultz, Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, will officiate. Family and friends can
visit at the time of service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Gladys’ name to benefit the
Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all who helped, especially Sharon S.
Richardson Hospice and Sylvan Crossing Assisted Living, Manitowoc; as well as Dr.
Mary Arenberg of Plymouth, who has been a steadfast partner in Gladys’ care over many
years.
