Sarah J. Cornell, 76 of Plymouth, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021, at the Aurora Medical
Center in Grafton after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Sarah was born on April 6, 1945, in Plymouth, a daughter to the late Alton and Veronica (Herbert)
Gannon. She attended elementary school in Greenbush, graduated from Plymouth High School and
then graduated as a dental hygienist from Marquette University. On January 28, 1967, she was united in
marriage to Thomas Cornell at St. Fridolin Catholic Church in Glenbeulah. Throughout their marriage
they resided in several areas of the country before returning to Plymouth in 1997. Sarah’s pride and joy
were her children and grandchildren. Tom and Sarah enjoyed walking in the Kettle Moraine and time
spent at Road America. Sarah was active volunteering in various capacities at her parish church, St. John
the Baptist Catholic Church. She also enjoyed singing with the Plymouth Arts Center choir.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Thomas, three children, Chad (Jennifer) Cornell of Minneapolis, MN,
Maggie (Dennis) Melowski of Kohler and Timothy (Katherine) Cornell of Elm Grove; ten grandchildren,
and two brothers, Patrick (Judy) Gannon of Minneapolis, MN, and Daniel (Sheila) Gannon of Mequon.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristin Ann, and her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Saturday, August 28, at St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church with Rev. Philip Reifenberg as celebrant. Family and friends may gather on Friday
evening August 27, from 4:30 pm until 8 pm at Wittkopp Funeral and Cremation Service, 123 South
Street, Plymouth and on Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 115 Plymouth Street,
Plymouth from 10 am until the time of Mass at 11 am. Cremation will follow the Mass with inurnment
in St. John the Baptist Parish Cemetery.
In preference to flowers, memorials in Sarah’s name are preferred.
