FORT McCOY, WI (WHBL) – The first Afghan refugees have arrived at Fort McCoy in western Wisconsin.
The Task Force McCoy Public Affairs said people with special immigrant visas, families, and others at risk have started arriving. More arrivals are expected this week.
Brigadier General Chris Norrie said one-thousand soldiers are at the base to help deal with the people arriving from Afghanistan. Governor Tony Evers has said anywhere from ‘a few hundred’ to up to two-thousand refugees will land in Wisconsin.
