Although the number of active COVID-19 cases was down by 10 since Thursday’s semi-weekly report, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health still added another 53 confirmed cases since then, putting the total case count during the pandemic at 14,352. The 63 recoveries were enough to offset new cases, putting the active count at 245, similar to early February. And while 8 patients are now being treated in area hospitals, that doesn’t reflect the fact that a total of 12 persons had to be admitted since Thursday, and discharges held that number down. No deaths due to COVID have been added since July 28th, and the toll remains at 154.
During the same 4-day span, Wisconsin added 4,041 cases of COVID-19 to the total which now stands at 638,571. The Wisconsin Hospital Association also noted the rise in cases. Currently, 660 patients are hospitalized in the state with COVID-19, nearly identical to the number hospitalized on January 30th this year. That number dipped as low as 74 on July 6th but has rapidly increased since then, and the ICU patient count at 204 is comparable to mid-January as well.
Vaccinations are being encouraged to control the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, especially the Delta variant. 61,952 Sheboygan County residents have received at least one dose, while 57,491 are fully vaccinated. Those equal 53.7% and 49.8% of the population respectively.
