With 42 more positive tests offset by 9 recoveries, the number of active cases of COVID-19 being monitored by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health jumped 33 since Wednesday to a total of 180 active cases. 156 cases have been added in the last week, and in all 14,145 instances of the disease have been recorded here during the pandemic. Since two deaths were added on July 28th, the toll has remained at 154. Hospitalizations were up by two, to a total of 7 patients in Sheboygan County, with 10 patients in all recorded during the past week. The most recent tabulation by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to determine Sheboygan County’s 7-day average of new confirmed cases of COVID-19, that being 12, was on August 4th.
The County DPH in its weekly update noted that Sheboygan County currently has a 7-day case rate of 144.44 per 100,000 persons, with a percent positivity rate of 11.24%. Based upon this data, Sheboygan County currently has a High Level of Transmission. While vaccination is the top defense against the Delta variant, the CDC guidance recommends masking when levels of community transmission are substantial or high. Given current data, this now involves all 72 counties in Wisconsin.
Statewide, the DHS now indicates that the 7-day average of new confirmed cases is 1,000, and the 7-day average of percent positive by test is 7.6%. By the latest count, 626,880 cases have been recorded in Wisconsin.
Vaccinations rates in Sheboygan County are still far behind those of early April when over 9,000 doses were administered each week. Last week, 966 doses were administered, and so far this week 544 have been reported. 58,657 persons, or 50.9% of the population, have received at least one dose, while 48.4%, or 55,877 county residents, are fully vaccinated.
