Harold “Archie” Soerens, 95, of Oostburg, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Archie was born to B. Henry and Mabel (Dell) Soerens on October 29, 1925, in Oostburg. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1943. Archie was united in marriage to Lois Heinen on June 10, 1949, in Cedar Grove. Lois preceded him in death on May 22, 1998. Their marriage was blessed with 4 children.
Archie served in the US Navy during World War II from 1943-1946, serving in the Pacific Theatre area. He was employed at Kohler Company as a shipping clerk for 41 years until his retirement in 1991. After retirement he continued to work part time as a tour guide at Kohler Design Center for many years.
Archie was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg, where he served as deacon, elder, and Sunday school superintendent. He was also a member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club. Archie enjoyed bowling, golfing, stamp collecting, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Archie is survived by his sons, Kevin (Vicki) Soerens of Oostburg, Jan (Judy) Soerens of Gibbsville; daughter, Lynn (James) Batzner of Oostburg; grandchildren, Travis (Kelly) Soerens, Dustin Soerens, Meghan Batzner, Benjamin Batzner; great-grandchilden, Jenna Soerens, Lucy Soerens, Easton Soerens and Harper Soerens. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Muriel Ledeboer of Oostburg; brother-in-law, Dale (Carolee) Heinen; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, daughter, Lori Sue, brothers, Wilton “Pete” (Violet) Soerens, Robert (Doris) Soerens, Kenneth (Genieve) Soerens; his sisters, Geraldine Novshek, Lenora Payne (Nash); brother-in-law, Garrit Ledeboer; special friend, Delores Nonhof.
A funeral service for Archie will be held at First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 12:00 pm with Pastor Bob Rook officiating. If unable to attend, all are welcome to join via livestream by visiting wenig.live/ArchieSoerens . Burial will take place at Oostburg Cemetery.
Family and friends may greet the family on Thursday at church from 10:00 am until the time of service.
