Sheboygan is among the top cities in the U.S. where manufacturing is thriving. That, according to a survey of 294 cities by AdvisorSmith, a New York Based company that specializes in insurance information for business owners.
AdvisorSmith used information from federal bureaus and looked at four key economic factors to make their rankings: manufacturing output and employment growth rates from 2015-2019, and manufacturing output per capita and a manufacturing location quotient from 2019. Among small cities – those under 150,000 population – Sheboygan was ranked second behind Columbus, Indiana, and Sheboygan ranked 4th overall regardless of size.
Data from AdvisorSmith showed a 3.8% Manufacturing Output Growth Rate from 2015-2019, a 1.2% growth in Manufacturing Employment during those years, and in 2019 Sheboygan had $26,032 in Per Capita Manufacturing Output and also scored 4.4 in the Manufacturing Employment Location Quotient.
That last figure measures the proportion of manufacturing jobs to total jobs in a city compared with the national average. Sheboygan ranked 3rd overall in that quotient, and had the 8th highest manufacturing output per capita among all cities surveyed.
