While it’s too early to call it a trend, and there’s no data available to show that the “Delta” variant is behind the rise, the number of active cases of COVID-19 reported by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health has stopped dropping for now.
An active case count as low as 25 was reached on July 6th, 9th and 12th, but has now returned to 27 cases. It will be some time before any solid trends can be found. Wisconsin DHS data shows a low 7-day average of 60 cases per day was reached on July 5th, but that has been trending upwards, and the rate has now more than doubled at 139 cases per day. Officials continue to urge those who have not been vaccinated to do so as soon as possible. Current vaccines have been shown to be effective against the highly-contagious Delta variant of the Coronavirus.
Wisconsin has seen 50.9% of its population receive at least one dose of vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, while Sheboygan County has treated only 49.3%. Full vaccinations here comprise 47% of the County population; statewide that figure is 48.1%.
In an effort to make vaccines more accessible, the Sheboygan County DPH is offering free COVID-19 vaccinations in a walk-in clinic every Wednesday between 9 AM and 4 PM. Those are available for anyone age 12 or older at the Sheboygan County Health and Human Services building at 1101 North 8th Street. Questions can be addressed to the COVID-19 vaccine hotline at 920-395-9890.
