
Betty Ann Nohlquist (Nee Grams) passed away peacefully on May 31 st , 2021 with her loving
family at her side. She was born on August 14, 1924 in Milwaukee, WI a daughter of the late
Melvin and Annabelle (Morton) Grams. Betty was 96 years young. She looked forward to
receiving her angel wings to join family and friends waiting for her in Heaven.
Betty attended schools in Milwaukee and graduated from Girls Tech High School in June of
1941. During World War II she volunteered with the USO and met a handsome sailor. Betty
was married to Lester E. Nohlquist in the chapel of the Philadelphia Naval Yard in November of
1944. Following the war, they moved to Jamestown, NY and raised a family. Betty had a long
history working in various medical offices and hospitals, including 27 years in public relations at
St. Joseph’s Hospital, Milwaukee. She was a journalist for a community newspaper in
Lakewood, NY and later Editor of several newsletters in the medical field. She was also a guest
lecturer at Marquette University School of Journalism.
Betty was a longtime member of the Greater Federation of Woman’s Clubs and served as
President of the Northwest Milwaukee and Plymouth clubs; a member of Salem UCC; a member
and volunteer for the Plymouth Arts Center and the Plymouth Historical Society.
She is survived by two daughters; Janice Nohlquist, Plymouth, WI and Dena (Ralph) Adamson,
Plymouth, WI. Two grandchildren; Kelly (Brian) Klaschus, Black Earth, WI and Brent (fiancée
Melanie) Adamson, Grafton, WI. Two great grandchildren; Karly Adamson, Plymouth, WI and
Alex Klaschus, Black Earth, WI and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joyce (Edward) Borre; brothers, Melvin Grams
and Jack Grams; dearest grandmother, Mary Morton Velvick; and many aunts, uncles cousins
and close friends
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family memorial is being planned at a
future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty’s name are requested to the Sharon S. Richardson
Community Hospice.
