The conviction of a Sheboygan Falls man for repeated sexual assault of a child was reversed on Wednesday by the Wisconsin District 2 Court of Appeals. The reversal was ordered after finding that the confession by Daniel Rejholec was obtained improperly when Sheboygan Police Detective Eric Edson repeatedly misrepresented Rejholec’s constitutional Miranda rights to silence, counsel, and the right to testify at his trial, after which Rejholec made the incriminating statements.
The appeals court ordered the circuit court to reverse the conviction, suppress the comments made after the point of the rights violation and continue the case.
Rejholec is currently serving what was a 12-year prison term at KMCI that began in 2018.
