From refrigerators to light bulbs, utility meters and even cars, just about anything can be a “smart device” these days, connecting to the internet for information, control and other purposes. It’s called the “Internet of Things”, and the Wisconsin IoT Council is meeting in Sheboygan on Wednesday to talk about the latest issues concerning the some 25 billion devices involved worldwide.
With hackers taking center stage through the recent extortions of pipelines and meat processors, keeping ahead of them is essential, and one of the main sessions will be about designing a trustworthy Internet of Things.
Though the Internet of Things might be global and massive, the Wisconsin IoT Council is homegrown, incubated under the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation, and it’s hoped that Wednesday’s event will help solidify Wisconsin and the Midwest as the epicenter for IoT, driving technology forward from right here in Sheboygan.
