Merlin “Bud/Pete” Peters, 90 of Plymouth passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Sharon S.
Richardson Community Hospice Center with his wife beside him.
Merlin was born on June 3, 1930 in Wayne, Nebraska a son to the late Herbert and Estella (Lutt) Peters.
He attended school at District 26 in Wayne and graduated from Winside High School in 1948. Upon
graduation he enlisted in the Navy served during the Korean Conflict from 1948 until 1952. He was
discharged as a QMS2. From 1952 until 1954 he was employed by Schmode Weible in Winside, NE. He
then moved to Southern California. He then was a cross country truck driver for Kansas-Arizona Freight
until 1959 and retired from US Motors/Emerson Electric in 1985. On August 30, 1968 he was united in
marriage to Marcie Maxey in Las Vegas, NV and they resided in Southern California until coming to
Plymouth in May of 1984. He then worked for Valley Construction until retiring in 1994.
Merlin was proud to be able to take part in the Honor Flight on April 16, 2016 with his guardian Dr. Mark
Sharon. He was a member of the American Legion for 67 continuous years and a current member of the
Ladewig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243 of Plymouth.
Merlin enjoyed all sports, hunting, fishing, pool and gardening.
Merlin is survived by his wife Marcie, his stepdaughter, Melody Troisi of Yorba Linda, CA; his sisters,
Delores Loebsack of Sioux City IA and Bonnie Wylie of Winside, NE and a sister-in-law, Marian Peters of
Pierce, NE; and brother in law and sister in law, Wally and Grace Hecker of Plymouth. Merlin is further
survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Orville and Ruth Peters and Norman and
Elaine Peters; his brothers-in-law, Bill Loebsack and Bruce Wylie; his sister in law, Shirley Hecker; step
sons-in-law, Frank Troisi and Carlos Lopez and his mother and father in law, Elmer and Anita Hecker.
A funeral service for Merlin will be held at 2 PM, Friday, May 28 at Wittkopp Funeral and Cremation
Service, 123 South Street, Plymouth. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home from 1 PM until
time of service. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery with military rites accorded.
Memorials in Merlin’s name can be made to the charity of your choice.
Marcie would like to thank the caregivers at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for the care and compassion
shown to both her and Merlin and also to the many neighbors who helped them throughout the years.
