Monica Mary (Rudie) Schukantz passed away on Wednesday May 5th at her home in
Sheboygan at the age of 99. In fulfillment of her wishes, she was able to remain at home with
the care of her loving son Tim and the much appreciated help of Compassus Hospice.
Monica was a kind, gentle, patient and loving person who had a respect for and passion to
preserve life which was reflected in her profession as a nurse. She also loved nature and
animals and never neglected a creature in distress. She loved to sing and had a twinkle in her
eye and a very contagious laugh.
Born on August 19,1921, Monica was the only child of the late Clara (Rank) Rudie and Arthur
Rudie. She grew up in Two Rivers and completed training to become a Registered Nurse at the
Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc. She used these skills to serve in WW2 from 1943 to 1945
where she earned the title of Army First Lieutenant after completing her service, part of which
was spent in Devizes England. She married Walter H. Schukantz on June 30th, 1947 and
moved to Sheboygan where they raised their five children.
A Funeral Service will be held for Monica on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Ballhorn Chapels at
12:00 PM. The service will be livestreamed from Monica's obituary page on the funeral
home website. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Please
follow all COVID-19 guidelines, including the wearing of face masks and social distancing.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sheboygan.
Monica was preceded in death by Walter, her husband of 65 years and their son Lee
Schukantz. She leaves behind her children Gary Schukantz, Mary Ann Braunstein, Tim
Schukantz and Louise Abraha along with 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren who love
and will miss her very much!
