Gary J. Muench, age 81, passed away Sunday, April 25 th .
Gary was born Feb. 16, 1940 in Antigo, WI, a son of the late Clarence and Marion
(Holup) Muench. He graduated from Antigo High School, after graduation joined
the U.S. Navy where he spent time on the carrier ship, the U.S. Independence. He
served 4 years from 1958-1962 and enjoyed sharing many of his great stories and
adventures during his service to his country. Shortly after serving his tour in the
Navy, he returned back to Antigo where he met Gail Gibbons, who within a year
became his beautiful wife.
Gary, also known as “Mike” or “Blackie” by much of his family & friends,
eventually settled in Plymouth in 1974 where they raised their 2 children, Pat and
Kelly. Gary was a lifelong conservationist who enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, and
mentoring kids throughout the area in his love of the outdoors.
He also was an avid supporter of the Sheboygan County Big Brothers and Big
Sisters program where he was an active Big Brother for over 30 years!
His contributions to the preservation of the outdoors did not go unnoticed as he
was awarded “Conservationist of the Year” in 1998 and 2008. He has numerous
accolades for his long standing service to the National Wild Turkey Federation
where he helped open and lead the local chapter in Sheboygan County.
Gary is survived by his wife; Gail, his children, Pat (Anne) Muench of Oshkosh, WI,
grandchildren (Eddie and George Muench) and Kelly (Greg) Schuster of Hilton
Head Island, SC, grandchildren (Alec and Sydney Schuster). Three brothers:
Chuck (Ann) Muench of Fort Worth, TX, Pat (Jan) Muench of Bedford IN, and
Denny (Sherry) Muench of West Bend; two sister-in-laws: Maxine Muench of
Antigo and B.J. Muench of Tomah. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews,
other relatives and many dear friends.
He is preceded is preceded in death by his parents; brother: Dick Muench and
the recent death of his brother; Eugene Thomas Muench.
Following Gary’s wishes, cremation will take place and there will be NO SERVICES
or VISITATION. The family plans on having a private celebration of his life at a
future date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Gary’s name. The

His family would like to thank all the kind nurses and staff at Sheboygan Memorial
Hospital where he spent his last 40 days fighting a battle with Leukemia.
