(WHBL) – Advanced manufacturing in Wisconsin has heightened the demand for skilled workers, and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development is helping several area school districts prepare students for those jobs before they leave high school.

The Kohler, New Holstein and Random Lake School Districts are among 16 in the state that were granted a total of over $440,000 through the Expanded Wisconsin Fast Forward Technical Education Equipment Grant Program.

Kohler Schools will use over $8,000 to purchase, and instruct students on programmable logic controller and electronic sensor learning systems, while the New Holstein district will use over $5,000 to support it’s “Fab Lab Manufacturing Learning Center” and to purchase a Gunsmithing Lathe.

One of the largest grant amounts, nearly $50,000, was awarded to the Random Lake School District to support its Cooperative Capstone Course, and will enable the purchase of a Skill Boss Smart Factory, an 8-station, fully-connected manufacturing system trainer and robotics controller.  Also included are the software licenses, curriculum leases, learning systems and instructor training.
