Betty L. Machtig, 74, of Sheboygan, passed away early Saturday morning, April 17, 2021 at Sunny Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center with her daughter by her side.
Born August 25, 1946 in Sheboygan, Betty was the daughter of Clarence and Helen Hubbard Sackett. She attended Sheboygan area schools and graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1965. Betty attended Lakeshore Technical College to be certified as a nursing assistant.
She was united in marriage to Jack Machtig on April 2, 1966. He preceded her in death August 9, 2016.
Betty worked as a CNA for the Visiting Nurse Association. She was also a foster grandparent at James Madison Elementary. She was especially well-known as the happy crossing guard at School Street in Sheboygan Falls, smiling, waving, and brightening everyone’s day.
She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Waldo, WI, sang in the church choir, and was involved with the ladies aid. She was also a part of the Jefferson Elementary PTA, a Girl Scout leader, and was a March of Dimes campaign chairperson. Betty also belonged to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Kettle Moraine Corvette Club.
She is survived by her children, Victoria (Sven) Almgren, Sheboygan, and Todd (Dawn) Machtig, Sheboygan Falls; two grandchildren, Dakota and Tate Machtig, Sheboygan Falls; brother and sister, Harry Sackett, IA, and Arleene Konz, Sheboygan; brother-in-law, Augie Grahl, Cascade; her best friends, Pauline Holtz, Sheboygan, and Joanie Hanson, Sheboygan; other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her three sisters, Mary Grahl, Esther Stark and Muriel Klaft, her brothers, Clarence “Bud”, Bill, Norm, and John Sackett, and her infant siblings, George and Helen Jean.
Family and friends are welcome from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021 at the Chapel of Eternal Light, 6706 Superior Avenue, Kohler. COVID 19 guidelines and social distancing and masks are required. A private family service will take place. Inurnment will be in the Chapel of Eternal Light Mausoleum.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Sunny Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center and Compassus Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Betty’s arrangements.
