The first death due to COVID-19 in Sheboygan County since April 1st was reported today by the Division of Public Health. The victim, identified only as someone in their 60s, became the 170th county resident to succumb to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Of that number, one was between 10 and 19 years old, three were in their 30s, five were in their 40s, five were in their 50s, twenty-two were in their 60s, twenty-eight were in their 70s, and seventy-one were 80 or older.
Since Friday, the County DPH recorded 37 new cases of COVID-19, while during the same time, 48 recovered, lowering the active case count by 12 to 166. Hospitalizations rose 5 since Friday to a current patient population of 11.
As of Monday morning, 39.1% of Sheboygan County residents had received at least one dose of vaccine, while 26.5% – amounting to 30,540 – were fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. The most-vaccinated age demographic by far was that of persons 65 and older; 71.8% of that age group had completed their vaccine series. Next were those 55-64 at 30.6%, and numbers went down by age from there until reaching 3% of those 16-17 years of age.
Wisconsin added 1,618 new cases since Friday, 373 of those on Monday to raise the running total case count to 590,831. 6,710 deaths have now been recorded, with one of those added today. 37 persons needed to be hospitalized since Sunday, and after accounting for deaths and discharges the patient population rose 39 to 357, 94 of those in ICU beds.
