Drug Take Back Day
Unused prescription drugs can be dangerous when left around the house, tossed in the trash or sent down the drain, and according to Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, some like opioids become diverted and sustain the problem of addiction. All that can be avoided with proper disposal, such as that provided by the Healthy Sheboygan County 2020 Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 24th.
The event will be conducted between 10 AM and 1 PM that day at Generations in Plymouth, the Random Lake Fire Department, and at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan.
Waste pharmaceuticals must be generated by households only, and can include both prescriptions and OTC medications whether for people or pets. Ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams and vials will be accepted and should be in their original containers.
If Sheboygan County residents are unable to make it to one of the Drug Take Back Day locations, unused medications can also be dropped off any day at one of the permanent medication drop-boxes, located at six police departments throughout Sheboygan County:
•Elkhart Lake Police Department, 40 Pine Street, Elkhart Lake
•Kohler Police Department, 319 Highland Drive, Kohler
•Plymouth Police Department, 128 Smith Street, Plymouth
•Sheboygan Police Department, 1315 N. 23rd Street, Sheboygan
•Sheboygan Falls Police Department, 375 Buffalo Street, Sheboygan Falls
•Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, 525 N 6th Street, Sheboygan
GUIDELINES:
All waste pharmaceuticals must be generated by a household – no businesses are allowed.
All sites will be drive thru only and we request persons stay in their vehicle and wear a mask as they approach the disposal site for the safety of volunteers.
Bring: Prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials and pet medications. It is recommended that participants bring their medications in the original pill containers. You may cross your name off of any labels ahead of time.
Do Not Bring: Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, acids, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas), mercury thermometers.
•Liquids will be accepted during this initiative. However, the liquids, creams and sprays must be in their original packaging and their weight evenly distributed within the boxes of collected solid prescription medications. Liquids without the original packaging will not be accepted.
•Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers.
