Merry Dalrymple, age 80, of Sheboygan passed away, Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Sharon S.
Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. She was born December 26, 1940 in Fargo, North
Dakota to Winifred and Francis Dalrymple. She spent her childhood in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated
from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa.
She graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
1964 and earned a Master of Arts degree from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan in
1978. She taught Physical Education in Humboldt, Iowa for two years. While in Humboldt, she coached
girls’ golf and her team competed in two State Meets.
She came to North High School to teach Physical Education in 1966. She was Department Chairperson
for many years. She was the pioneer in girls’ basketball and girls’ swim team. She coached 12 years
girls’ basketball and 25 years girls’ swim team and 2 years boys’ swim team. She coached 14 teams to
FRCC Conference Championship in girls’ swim and one Conference Championship in girls’ basketball.
Synchronized swimming was developed under her leadership at North High School. In 1979 she taught
swimming and set up a competitive swim program in Heidelburg, Germany for the US Army children.
Merry taught CPR and First Aid for the American Red Cross in the community for years. In the summer
she taught swim lessons for the American Red Cross in the county and swim lessons for the Sheboygan
Recreation Department. She received the Clara Barton Award from the Red Cross. She was a Big Sister
with the Big Brothers and Big Sister, working with 4 different little sisters. Merry drove for the Office on
Aging for people who needed rides to doctor appointments. She also delivered for Meals on Wheels.
Merry loved to knit and everyone loved her dish cloths. She also knit winter caps for different charities.
She loved playing Mah Jongg and laughing with her friends before the virus.
Merry loved to play golf and was in many leagues over the years at Town and Country, Riverdale and
Quit-Qui-Oc…She was very lucky to have a hole in one across the river at Town and Country.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Joan, and brothers Grant and John.
Merry is survived by her sister in laws and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and
one great, great nephew and many, many good friends and her Howards Grove and Sheboygan Family
of Pat & Cathy Whitty and their family, Caitlain, Kyle & Carly Decker and Tyler, Kristina & Miles Whitty.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name.
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Zimmer Westview Funeral &
Cremation Care Center, W2132 Garton Rd. Sheboygan, with Pastor Warren Waddell officiating.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 9:30 AM until the time of
service at the FUNERAL HOME. Covid 19 guidelines will be followed with masks being required and
social distancing of 6ft.
