Although net changes in the COVID-19 case counts have been small in magnitude of late, there was still a perceptible rise in activity noted in Sheboygan County statistics from the County Division of Public Health and the State Department of Health Services.
As of Wednesday, the number of active cases here reached 176, the highest reading since 179 were reported on February 17th. And despite qualifying as “No significant change” in the trajectory of cases over time, the 14-day average burden went from 131.9 last week, to 149.3 this week. Both are considered “High” rates of activity. And considering the 7-day average “Percent positive by test” rate in Sheboygan County, we went from a 4.7% rate a week ago – on March 31st – to today’s 6.2%.
13,356 Sheboygan County residents have now experienced COVID-19, and 134 did not survive. The total case count was increased by 20 new confirmed cases, while 13 recovered since Tuesday. There were no new deaths or net changes in hospitalizations here.
Wisconsin added 727 new cases of COVID-19 statewide on Wednesday, raising the running total to 581,797. As in the case of Sheboygan County, the 7-day percent positive rate by test in Wisconsin has risen in time, from an ebb of 2.0% on March 11th, to 3.7% today. 5 more deaths put the toll at 6,643, and 25 more persons were hospitalized for confirmed cases of the coronavirus. 65 patients suspect, but haven’t yet confirmed, that COVID-19 is behind their hospitalization. 267 COVID patients are hospitalized statewide, 7 fewer than on Tuesday. 65 are in ICU beds, and 377 ventilators are in use, down 23 from Tuesday.
