The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has announced a $6.2 million grant to be shared by one hundred organizations across the state, and some of that will be coming to our area. Governor Evers said that it’s a major investment to promote health equity in Wisconsin, and it includes strategies to ensure that vaccines reach communities that face barriers to accessing medical care, especially among Black, Indigenous and people of color. Many of the funds will be used by statewide organizations, while some will be focused more locally.
The Sheboygan County Division of Public Health was granted over $47,000 ($47,710) to increase vaccination rates among the Latinx and Hmong populations, the two highest racial and ethnic groups in the county.
$100,000 will be shared by Sheboygan and 7 other city members of the Wisconsin United Coalition of Mutual Assistance Associations, while Prevea Health will use $100,000 in Sheboygan and 18 other counties to vaccinate high-risk populations.
The grant program is part of Wisconsin’s broader efforts to advance racial and geographic equity in the COVID-19 vaccination program.
