The Sate of Wisconsin Shared Revenue program is one of Sheboygan’s largest single revenue sources according to Mayor Mike Vandersteen, but it’s been shrinking over the past 20 years and that has prompted city officials to draw up a formal call for an increase in the funds.
During last week’s meeting of the Sheboygan Finance and Personnel Committee, members were told that current year payments are based on 2013 calculations, and that the program hasn’t kept pace with the cost of providing services to residents.
Sheboygan is expected to get some 10-1/2 million dollars from the program this year, and Sheboygan, along with many other Wisconsin municipalities, is requesting a 2.5% increase in State Shared Revenue in 2022. That would add over a quarter-million dollars to the city’s coffers. A resolution requesting the increase was passed out of committee and was sent for approval at the next Common Council meeting.
