MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – The city of Milwaukee is taking the first step toward sending someone without a gun to 911 calls. The Common Council on Tuesday agreed to create a task force that could lead to the creation of an Unarmed First Responder program.
Supporters say the idea is to send someone to non-violent police calls, particularly for homeless people or people on drugs, to try to get them some help.
No one is saying just when the task force will meet, or when the first unarmed responders may hit the streets.
