Data from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services show that the number of Sheboygan County residents who are fully vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus now outnumber the total number of COVID-19 cases confirmed by 730, further signs that the coronavirus pandemic is being steered in the right direction, here at least. While infections are rising in the surrounding states of Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota – along with 18 other states, Wisconsin in general, along with Sheboygan County, are trending downward, and vaccinations are increasing.
With 30 positive test returns out of a pool of 162 and 45 recovering since Friday, active cases dropped by 15 to 157. The positive test rate was 19.5%. Hospitalizations in the county rose by two, and deaths were unchanged since Friday at 133. The total number of COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic is now 13,172.
While total cases advanced slowly, vaccinations are making good ground against the coronavirus. As of Monday, 13,902 county residents had completed their full vaccination course. Vaccinations went from 4,725 per week beginning March 1st, to 6,327 the second week and 7,188 during the week just passed. Nearly a quarter (24.6%) of county residents have now had at least one shot.
Wisconsin added 1,160 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Friday, 388 of those today, putting the running total at 572,770. That total is surpassed by the number of fully vaccinated residents at 860,062, which amounts to 14.8% of the state population. 25.3% of all Wisconsinites…nearly 1-1/2 million…have had at least one shot.
No deaths in Wisconsin have been reported since Saturday and the toll remains 6,576. Hospitalization was required by 24 more persons since Sunday, and the patient population – after allowing for discharges – rose by seven to 203. 57 COVID patients are in ICU beds, and 376 patients require ventilators, whether for COVID or not.
