The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County has taken another bump up. And although the gain was relatively small small – 19 cases – in the presence of 11 recoveries it raised the active case count to 158, a level last exceeded when the count reached 162 on February 19th. Hospitalizations were also up by 1, to a total of 7 COVID patients in the county. The 30 new positive tests raise the total count here to 13,100, and the positive test rate was 36%.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services recorded 480 new cases since Monday, putting the running total at 570,412. The positive test percentage was nearly 30%. Deaths increased by 3 to 6,539, and 68 more persons had to be hospitalized for COVID-19. Another 31 patients suspect, but haven’t yet confirmed, that the disease landed them in the hospital. After accounting for deaths and discharges, the state’s COVID patient population rose one, to 215…61 of those in ICU beds. 350 of the state’s 2,385 ventilators are currently in use.
While Phases 1A and 1B of the vaccination schedule are still underway, the DHS announced that it was moving up the eligibility date for the Phase 1C population to March 22nd, one week earlier than initially announced, as vaccine supplies have become better and more certain. That phase will include individuals age 16 and older with certain medical conditions that have a greater risk of severe infection from COVID-19. Click here to access the DHS Vaccine Eligibility page.
As of Tuesday morning, 23,414 county residents…20.3%…had received at least one dose of vaccine, and just over 10% had completed their full series.
