A second county resident has died this week of COVID-19 according to the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. The person, at least 80 years old, becomes the 133rd victim of the disease since it arrived a year ago this week. Of that total, one was between 10 and 19 years old, three were in their 30s, four in their 40s, five in their 50s, twenty-two in their 60s, twenty-eight were in their 70s and seventy were 80 or older.
Of the 60 test results received since Monday, 9, or 15%, were positive, and with 9 recoveries the active case count dropped by 1 to 131. Hospitalizations declined by 3 to six persons.
The state Department of Health services says that 567,334 residents have experienced COVID-19 so far, with 463 added today. With 1,496 test returns in all, the positive rate was 31%. The 29 deaths recorded since Monday put the toll at 6,510, and 70 more hospitalizations were reported. After accounting for deaths and discharges, the patient population dropped by 11 to 244, 63 of those in ICU beds, and 364 patients in all are on ventilators.
As of Tuesday morning, 17.2% of Sheboygan County residents (19,876) have received at least one dose of vaccine, and 8,855, or 7.7%, have completed their course of shots. By age, the largest sector having received at least one dose of the vaccine is that of 65 and older, with 12,469, or 58.3% of that demographic, getting at least one dose.
