Thomas Mockert Jr, 81, of Sheboygan, passed away after complications from Parkinson’s Disease, on March 1,
2021, at Sheboygan Senior Community.
Thomas was born on April 16, 1939, to Thomas and Emma (Bertsch) Mockert in Sheboygan. He graduated from
Central High School in Sheboygan in 1957. On June 8, 1963, Thomas married Eileen Schneider in Howards Grove.
Thomas graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with his bachelor’s degree and later with his M.D. He
served an internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and later his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
After completing his residency, Thomas served as a physician in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Hickam Air
Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 1968-1970. After serving his country in the Air Force, Thomas, Eileen, and
their family moved back to Sheboygan to begin his medical practice in Internal Medicine. He practiced as an
Internist until his retirement in 1994.
Thomas was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. One of his favorite things to do was to get his entire family
together. He was a very focused man, whether he was working or playing. He also loved fly fishing, fly-tying, and
travelling in the pursuit of trout. He went to the YMCA every weekday, where he developed many close friendships
while he was exercising or just chatting. He also enjoyed the fellowship of his bible class every Friday morning at
Trinity Lutheran Church, where he and Eileen were members since 1970.
Education was very important to Thomas. He was very dedicated to his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-
Madison and was a lifelong Badger fan. He was a member of the first board of directors of Sheboygan Lutheran
High School and supported the school in many ways throughout his life. He took great pride in his children’s and
grandchildren’s education, always encouraging them to work hard and succeed.
Thomas will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of 57 years, Eileen; children, Laura Herrmann, Michael (Amy)
Mockert, David (Susan) Mockert, Sara (Scott) Heberlein, and Dana (Jeremy) Baalke; grandchildren, Erika and Katie
Herrmann; Maya, William, and Olivia Mockert; Sam, Mollie, and Julia Mockert; Sidney and Luke Heberlein; and
Trey and Bryn Baalke; sister, Dorothy Kohls; sister-in-law, Joan (Warren) Wunsch; and many other relatives and
friends.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Emma; brother-in-law, Carl Kohls; and father-in-law
and mother-in-law, Walter and Norma (Oetling) Schneider.
