MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — It looks like the mask mandate signed and extended by Governor Tony Evers will remain in place for now.
Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos cancelled a scheduled vote on a senate measure to repeal the mandate, which has been in place since July, on Thursday afternoon.
This comes after the senate passed the measure on Tuesday with all but two Republicans in support.
There was concern in the hours before the cancellation that removing the state’s mask mandate could put $49 million in federal food assistance in jeopardy.
