Even as Sheboygan County’s population of COVID-19 hospital patients nearly doubled in one day – from 8 on Thursday to 14 on Friday – the active case count dropped by 26 to 620 cases in all, according to Friday’s report from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. To compare, our county had 848 cases at the beginning of this year, and cases have now fallen by over one quarter. 35 new cases were offset by 61 recoveries, and 12,286 have now fought COVID-19 in our county. 111 have lost that fight. Friday’s positive test return rate was 19.6%.
Examining the 2-week rates and trajectories, Sheboygan County has a “Very High” activity level, with a case burden of 544.9 per 100,000 population. The 2-week trajectory was down 27%.
At that “Very High” level, guidance advises a self-quarantine of 14 days when returning from travel, no gatherings outside of the household, and outdoor gatherings limited to 10 people or fewer with physical distancing and face coverings.
Wisconsin saw another 36 deaths in Friday’s report from the State DHS, putting the death toll at 5,643. 2,070 new positive test returns comprised 24.6% of all returns, raising the state total of COVID-19 cases so far to 530,171. 91 more persons were hospitalized for the disease, and after accounting for discharges and deaths, the Wisconsin population of COVID-19 patients dropped 23 to 785. 178 of those are in the ICU, and 462 ventilators are in use.
