(WHBL) – While recent federal legislation extended a moratorium on evictions based on nonpayment of rent through the end of this month, renters must act in order to be protected. That from the Administrator of Wisconsin’s Division of Trade and Consumer Protection Lara Sutherlin. She said that there’s no automatic entitlement under the CDC’s orders, and tenants who are having trouble making their rent payments must request relief in writing from their landlord.
A declaration form was made available by the CDC, and each adult listed on the lease, rental agreement, or housing contract must provide their own separate declaration. Rent will still need to be payed eventually, all other terms of the lease must be followed, and landlords are allowed to still charge and collect late fees, penalties, or interest.
