It was a “very different bell ringing season” according to Sheboygan Salvation Army Development Director Carrye Jo Cony, but the goal of $685,000 between that Red Kettle, and the Corporate campaign, is only about 9% away from being fulfilled.
Cony said that the 2020 red kettle goal of $150,000 was set in a pre-COVID time where large groups of volunteers conducted their activities among equally large groups of shoppers.
The exact total of all the coins and bills placed in the large red kettles that were scattered across the county is $102,742, and there was an increase in personal giving by mail and online. Cony said those donations are already helping supply Sheboygan County residents in need with food, shelter, medications and utility bills. And with just over $58,000 remaining, she’s hoping that the compassion already shown by the community will erase the gap, helping the Sheboygan Salvation Army to, as Cony put it, ‘disrupt the cycle of poverty, one person and one family at a time.’
Donations are being accepted by phone, or online at SASheboygan.org
