Some football fans would do anything for a trip to the Super Bowl, and the American Red Cross hopes that “anything” includes rolling up the sleeves for a blood donation. The incentive is being offered in hopes of meeting the need for convalescent plasma, which is used to help patients recover from COVID-19. There’s a shortage of that now, at the same time that stores of donated blood fall into typically short supply after the holidays.
The American Red Cross has partnered with the NFL to enter all who give blood or platelets this January into a drawing for a getaway to the 2022 Super Bowl in Los Angeles. That includes the round-trip airfare to LA and three night’s hotel accommodations, along with two tickets to the big game, entry to the Super Bowl Experience and a $500 gift card for expenses.
In Sheboygan County, your first chance to give blood and be entered for that drawing is at Anchor Lanes in Elkhart Lake this Wednesday from 11 till 4. There’s a blood drive this Friday from 1 until 6 at the Holiday Inn Express in Sheboygan. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plymouth will hold an event from 11:30 until 5:30 on Thursday the 14th, and the Sheboygan Trades and Labor Hall at 11th and Wisconsin holds a blood drive every Friday from 10 until 3.
You’ll find other blood drives and details on that drawing at RedCrossBlood.org.
