After the 4-day break for the New Year’s holiday weekend, the first report of 2021 from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health reported an additional 213 cases of COVID-19 cases since last Thursday. Total tests returned numbered 599, yielding a positive rate of 35.6%. During the same period, 363 persons recovered from their battle with COVID-19, while another person, identified only as a county resident age 80 or older, lost their fight. 94 persons in all have now died of COVID-19-related causes in Sheboygan County since the coronavirus first appeared here last March. Of those, one was between 10 and 19 years old, two were in their 30s, four were in their 40s, five were in their 50s, fourteen were in their 60s, twenty-three were in their 70s and 45 were 80 or older. Active case numbers continue to drop, with 848 currently dealing with a coronavirus infection – 151 fewer than last Thursday. 21 persons are hospitalized, a net gain of 1 over the same period.
Since last Thursday, the State of Wisconsin recorded another 10,646 positive tests for COVID-19. With 1,407 of the 3,912 test returns received in the last 24-hours coming up positive, that rate was 36%. The 9 deaths recorded since Sunday raise the toll to 4,884. 51 more persons were hospitalized since yesterday, and after accounting for deaths and discharges, the COVID-19 patient population rose 53 to 1,122. 231 of those occupy ICU beds. 42 patients are awaiting their test returns, and 458 patients in all are on ventilators. The Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park remains unoccupied.
