SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Even as active and new cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County remain at rates far lower than at the peak of the pandemic so far – in some cases on a downward trajectory – the deaths toll has been mounting at a tragic pace this week. Twelve deaths have been reported by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health so far beginning on Monday, three of those added Thursday. One of those was a person in their 70s, and the other two were 80 or older. Of the 75 confirmed deaths due to COVID-19, two were in their 30s, three in their 40s, five in their 50s, eleven in their 60s, nineteen in their 70s, and 35 were 80 or older. Statistics reported by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services also indicate that another two deaths are suspected – but not yet confirmed – to have been due to COVID-19.
76 out of 210 test results received since Wednesday were positive for COVID-19, a 36% rate, and raising the total case count in Sheboygan County to 9,943 and on the brink of topping 10,000. 173 persons recovered in the last 24-hours, and the active case count dropped 100 to 1,711. Hospitalizations dropped by 7 to 14.
Sheboygan County now displays a case rate per 100,000 population of 71.9, and a 7-day average daily new case count of 82.86.
The Wisconsin DHS received 12,555 test results since Wednesday, and 4,034 of those were positive – a 32% positive rate per test. There are now 52,259 active cases in the state. 57 more deaths were reported today, raising the toll to 3,944, and 160 more persons were admitted to hospitals for treatment of COVID-19. After accounting for discharges and deaths, the patient population in Wisconsin dropped 51 to 1,484, 332 of them in ICU beds. 542 patients in all are on ventilators. 11 patients are being treated at the Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park in West Allis.
The County DPH’s weekly report on Facility-Wide Investigations listed 58 in all, 12 more than were listed last week. 18 of those are long-term care facilities, 3 are group housing facilities, 3 health care facilities, such as hospitals, clinics, dialysis centers, hospice and in-home care facilities, are being investigated at this time. 19 non-healthcare workplaces are hosting active investigations as is 1 “other” setting, and 14 education settings are under active investigation. Any active investigation remains in effect for 28 days once initiated.
Of the 18 Skilled Nursing Long-term Care Facilities with Active Investigations, 5 were identified as:

- Sheboygan Health Services
- Sheboygan Senior Community
- Sunny Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center
13 of 14 Education Settings with Active Investigations were also identified:

- Kohler High
