SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Tuesday’s daily COVID-19 update from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health was a sobering report. Ten persons were reported to have succumbed to the illness in the last day, while the same 24-hours recorded 214 new positive test results, 50% of all tests returned. Of the 10 deaths reported, two were age 60-69, three were age 70-79, and five were 80+.
It was noted by the County DHS that because of the various steps involved in officially reporting a death as being caused by COVID-19, there may be a delay between the date of death and that of its report, and that can result in a large influx in a single day, such as was seen today. 42 county residents have now died from the coronavirus.
As 73 persons recovered in the last 24 hours, active cases rose 131 to 2,078 – a new high – and hospitalizations rose by 1 to 36. 6,336 persons in Sheboygan County have now experienced a coronavirus infection, about 5-1/2% of the population.
The State of Wisconsin on Tuesday recorded a new daily high of 7,073 new COVID-19 positive test returns, and with 19,999 returns overall, that’s a positive rate of 35.3%. 278,843 cases of COVID-19 have now been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic in Wisconsin back in March. 66 more deaths raised the toll to 2,385. 291 more persons entered hospitals for treatment since Monday, raising the patient population to 2,070. 418 – a new high – are in the ICU. Another 347 persons are inpatients and awaiting test results, and 606 persons are on ventilators.
