SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – There will be two more weeks of virtual learning for Sheboygan Area School District students due to COVID-19. That announcement coming this morning in a letter to parents which said that the decision was made after consideration of many factors, including the significantly increased number of COVID-19 cases in the community along with the number of cases and quarantines impacting staff and students. The letter said that no single metric provides a universal fit given the uniqueness of each school district in the state, and so the SASD will continue to consider local factors in its decision making.
The Sheboygan County DPH recommends virtual-learning-only until the 7-day average of daily new cases reaches 25 or less, that less than 50 cases per 10,000 residents exists over a 14-day period, and that a stable or declining positivity rate is seen over a 14-day period. Finally, SASD staffing and student illness and quarantine data will be taken into account. It’s hoped that those metrics will be satisfied in time for a return to in-person learning in the hybrid model on Monday, November 16th.
