SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Sheboygan County has now lost 24 persons to COVID-19 with the most recent casualty someone 80 or older, according to Thursday’s report from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. Of the deceased, nine were 80+, seven were in their 70s, four were in their 60s, two in their 50s, and one each in their 40s and 30s.
106 positive tests were received in the last 24-hours, raising the total cases so far to 4,101. Along with the latest death, 126 recoveries brought the active case count down to 982, 21 less than on Wednesday. No additional cases were noted at KMCI, which has recorded 844 to date. With 187 negative test returns, the positive rate was 36%.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported a new 3,413 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, raising the state total to 186,100. The positive rate was 22%. Another 22 deaths were recorded, raising the state death toll to 1,703. 151 more hospitalizations were reported. Wisconsin Hospitals Association data, current as of Wednesday, indicated 1,190 total COVID patients, 299 in the ICU. 209 more were awaiting test results as inpatients, and 458 were on ventilators.
Sheboygan County DPH reports 61 facility-wide investigations underway, over half of all undertaken so far. 9 of those are long-term care facilities, 2 are group housing facilities. 9 Workplace investigations are being conducted, and staff and students in 41 educational facilities are undergoing testing and contact tracing.

A letter, signed onto by the administrators of 22 Sheboygan County Public and Private Elementary, Middle and High Schools, as well as of Lakeland University, LTC and UW-Green Bay, outlined the surge in cases since the beginning of the fall semester, and urged everyone to diligently and vigilantly follow health and safety guidelines. They concluded by saying that “Disregarding the recommended safety measures may result in further limitations and/or long periods of remote/virtual learning. We all need to do our part. The time is now. Please be safe, stay healthy and remain vigilant in doing your part.”
