SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – A property tax levy increase of just over 1-1/2% was part of the proposed 2021 budget presented to the Sheboygan County Board on Tuesday. The 78-thousand-dollar increase came with a nearly 5% decrease in the proposed property tax rate from this year, going from $5.22 down to $4.96 per thousand dollars of equalized valuation. That results in a $26 decrease in property taxes on a home valued at $100,000, and is the 5th consecutive year the property tax rate has gone down.
County Administrator Adam Payne said that the proposed budget “reflects tremendous teamwork among County Board Supervisors and staff to be fiscally responsible and continue to provide quality programs and services.”
Board Chairman Vernon Koch echoed Payne, saying that every department contributed to reducing unnecessary expenses, establishing priorities and finding the most efficient ways to provide services.
The proposed 2021 budget consists of a $51,386,685 property tax levy, and a total budget of $150.7 million. A public hearing on the proposal will be held on October 27th, with final approval on November 3rd.
