WISCONSIN DELLS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) A Wisconsin man is charged in connection with the plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has charged a Wisconsin Dells man, Brian Higgins, 51, with material support of an act or terrorism. If convicted he could face up to 20 years in jail.
Investigators allege that Higgins helped plan the kidnapping of Governor Whitmer from her vacation home. The plotters wanted to take her to Cambria, Wisconsin for a mock trial for constitutional violations over her stay-at-home orders.
Higgins was arrested on Thursday in Wisconsin and will be extradited to Michigan.
He is to be arraigned in Antrim County.
A court date has not been scheduled.
The Attorney General’s office charged seven men after the execution of multiple search and arrest warrants October 7 in a joint operation with the U.S. Attorneys of the Eastern and Western districts of Michigan, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Michigan State Police. Six others are facing federal charges.
