SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – 68 Positive test returns for COVID-19 received on Saturday, along with 39 on Sunday and another 78 Monday raised the county total of COVID-19 cases to 2,896 according to Monday’s report from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. No additional cases were recorded from Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution, where 632 cases have been confirmed. With 94 persons recovering since Friday, Sheboygan County’s active case count rose by 91 to 455. Of those, ten are hospitalized.
On this past Sunday, Sheboygan County Emergency Management and Sheboygan County Division of Public Health partnered to conduct mass testing of employees of the Sheboygan County Detention Center. That was prompted by the discovery of 2 individuals within the correctional facility who have tested positive. The two were recently processed into the Detention Center and were quarantined upon entry. Per established procedure, all new bookings are quarantined upon arrival for 14 days.
Accommodation of positive cases within the center while protecting the other detainees and employees from infection involves isolation in negative pressure cells, meaning no air from those cells is released into the rest of the facility, and no contact with the general detention center population occurs.
Wisconsin added 1,956 cases to its total on Monday, which now stands at 152,192. 9 more persons succumbed to COVID-19, raising the state death toll to 1,474. 56 more persons entered the hospital for treatment of confirmed COVID-19 infections. As of Sunday’s 3 PM update (the latest available), 872 persons were hospitalized in Wisconsin with another 217 patients awaiting their test results. 402 persons are on ventilators.
The Wisconsin National Guard is offering free COVID-19 testing to anyone who exhibits symptoms or who has come in close contact with a known positive case at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth. The testing will occur between 10 AM and 6 PM both Wednesday, the 14th and Friday, the 16th. Advance registration is available online through a link posted with the daily update from County DPH at sheboygancounty.com.
