SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – With 31 new positive cases of COVID-19 confirmed by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health out of a pool of 509 tests returned, the new case percentage reported in Thursday’s update dropped to about 6.1% in Sheboygan County, down from Wednesday’s 14.4%. No new confirmed cases were reported at KMCI, where 572 infections of the coronavirus have been confirmed. As 33 persons recovered in the previous 24-hours, the active case load dropped by 2 to 311. Of those, 13 persons are hospitalized, four more than Wednesday and matching the high number reached 4 times previously.
Wisconsin received 16,656 test returns in the last day, with 3,132 – or 18.8% – coming back positive. 9 more persons were added to the death toll, now reading 1,424. Another 110 persons entered hospitals around the state for treatment, putting the COVID-19 patient population at 873, 219 of those in the ICU. Another 259 persons are hospitalized and awaiting their test results, and 398 persons require ventilators to survive their infection. Only 16% of beds remain available for new patients statewide, 11% here in Southeastern Wisconsin.
31 Sheboygan County Facilities now have active investigations for the presence of COVID-19. 8 of those are long-term care facilities, and 18 are educational settings.

- Sheboygan Central High
- Sheboygan North High
- Sheboygan South High
- Sheboygan Lutheran High
- Sheridan Elementary
Unnamed facilities under investigation include one group housing facility, 3 non-healthcare workplaces, and 1 “Other” setting such as adult center, restaurant, event space or religious setting.
Within the Sheboygan Area School District, cases of COVID-19 prompted 3 notification letters to parents. Two persons in Cohort “B” at Sheboygan South High were identified as in the building while infected with the coronavirus on October 1st and 2nd, and contact tracing is underway to identify those exposed and direct them to self-quarantine. Meanwhile, cleaning and sanitizing of the affected rooms is taking place. Also on Wednesday, similar notices were sent to parents of Jackson Elementary and Urban Middle School students.
