SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Sheboygan County added 65 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Monday’s report from the County Division of Public Health, with an 8.94% positive return rate. 43 of the new cases are Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution inmates; thus with 26 recoveries the active case count dropped by 4 to 291. Of the active cases 9 are hospitalized, continuing a decline that began over the weekend. 2,434 persons in our county have been confirmed with a coronavirus infection since the pandemic began in March. So far, the County DPH reports 551 infections at KMCI, while the Wisconsin Department of Corrections now attributes 560 cases of COVID-19 to that institution.
Wisconsin added another 2,020 cases to the confirmed COVID-19 total which now stands at 136,379. With 11,559 tests received in all, the positive return rate is 17.47%. 18 more persons died of COVID-19 since Monday, putting the death toll at 1,399. 108 more persons entered hospitals for treatment of their infections. The COVID-19 patient population in Wisconsin is now 853, with 261 of those in the ICU. 262 more persons are hospitalized and awaiting confirmation from their tests, and 386 persons are on ventilators.
In light of the current trend of COVID-19 metrics in Wisconsin and without a vaccine to control the spread of COVID-19, Governor Tony Evers and DHS Secretary Designee Andrea Palm today issued Emergency Order #3 which limits the capacity of public gatherings. The order becomes effective at 8 AM on Thursday, October 8th, and will remain in effect until Friday, November 6th. That time frame encompasses two incubation periods of COVID-19. Public gatherings will be limited to no more than 25% of the total occupancy limits for the room or building as established by the local municipality. For indoor spaces without an occupancy limit for the room or building – such as a private residence if open to the public – then public gatherings are limited to no more than 10 people. Private homes, invitation-only events, offices spaces, manufacturing plants and other facilities accessible only by employees or other authorized personnel are exempt.
